When I started classes at Lone Star College, I had three advisors in two weeks, and they did not evaluate my previous courses from more than two schools. This made it impossible for me to register for courses myself, so I was forced to register manually. My main frustration is the lack of support and clear communication from the advising staff.
Yesterday, another advisor informed me that I could not enroll in Trigonometry because I had not taken College Algebra. This was frustrating, given that I have previously completed higher-level math courses.
I have taken multiple math courses toward my degree, including Calculus I and II at Lone Star College.
I also completed Trigonometry in Spring 2025, or last year, and passed. Both Lone Star College and the Houston College System appear to use the same outdated software.
My primary concern is that the staff at Lone Star College and Houston Community College are often unhelpful and unprofessional, which makes it challenging for me to succeed as a student. I am frustrated that people who do not care or lack qualifications are part of the education system.
Yesterday, a former ranger student who frequently asks good questions in class stated that he would like me to tutor him after connecting with me on Facebook. I clarified that I am not a tutor, but if I do assist students, I would do so free of charge.
It is challenging to become a ranger or Navy SEAL in the U.S. military, and I respect my classmate’s accomplishments in this regard.
