Three advisors in two weeks at Lone Star College CyFair!
When I started classes at Lone Star College, I had three advisors in two weeks, which made me feel overlooked and frustrated. None of them evaluated my previous courses from more than two schools, leaving me feeling unsupported and confused about my registration process. This experience underscores the need for more transparent communication and consistent support for advising.
Another advisor informed me that I could not enroll in Trigonometry because I had not taken College Algebra. This was frustrating, given that I have previously completed higher-level math courses.
I also completed Trigonometry in Spring 2025 (last year) and passed. Both Lone Star College and the Houston College System appear to use the same outdated software.
My primary concern is that the staff at Lone Star College and Houston Community College often seem unhelpful and unprofessional, which makes me feel undervalued and discouraged. Recognizing the impact of supportive staff is essential for fostering a positive educational environment where students can succeed.
In Fall 2025 Statistics class, a former ranger student who frequently asked good questions reached out to me on Facebook and asked if I would tutor him. I clarified that I am not a tutor, but if I do assist students, I would do so free of charge.
It is challenging to become a Ranger or Navy SEAL in the U.S. military, and I respect my classmate’s accomplishments in this regard. Acknowledging such achievements fosters mutual respect and highlights the importance of recognizing students’ dedication and success.
