Black Americans built this country, forced to work as slaves, and despite these conditions, some invented important devices such as the cotton gin and elevators.

George Floyd was from my hometown of Houston, Texas, and attended a high school that received poor support from the HISD system, which shaped his life experiences and highlights systemic inequities faced by Black Americans.

He faced mistreatment throughout his life, most notably during the incident with Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes.

If a young Black female had not recorded what happened, the world might not have believed it.

For me, color, religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality do not matter because we are equal at birth and at death, and that principle should guide how we confront injustice.

Black Americans built this country, forced to work as slaves, and despite these conditions, some invented important devices such as the cotton gin and elevators.

We must continue to expose racist individuals who influence discrimination against working people and us, especially among those holding leadership or influencer roles, to advance true equality.
