Oaxaca, for instance, has a very high percentage of Indigenous residents, leading to a generally darker-skinned population.<br><br>Veracruz:\u00a0This state on the Gulf Coast is the other main region in Mexico with a significant Afro-Mexican population.<br>Skin tone in Mexico is not determined by geography alone but by the country&#8217;s complex history of intermixing among Indigenous, European, and African peoples.
